School Demonstration

Painting demonstration by Karen Lynn Ingalls, at St. Apollinaris School. Here - painting upside down.
In December, I gave a demonstration and talked to the students at St. Apollinaris School in Napa. Sandra Cassayre Moore, their art teacher, who invited me, is also a fellow Napa Valley Open Studios artist.
The students had lots of great questions!
The students had lots of great questions! And we packed a lot into our time. You can see more about it, including photos Sandra just sent me of student's paintings, on my art workshops website blog, here, at NapaValleyArtWorkshops.com.

Spring 2011 painting classes at the Calistoga Art Center

The new year has arrived, and it's time for my Acrylic Painting classes to begin again at the Calistoga Art Center. This will be the Art Center's last month in Calistoga's historic Masonic Building, on the main street in town. The light there is spectacular.… Feel like painting objects in light from the windows? Painting the street views? This is your last chance.…

Painters at work in the Spring 2010 Acrylic Painting class

The first four–week session runs from January 12th through the beginning of February. We'll have one four–week session on Wednesdays, and another on Fridays, both from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon.

Then the Art Center moves to its new location, in the Cropp Building, at the Napa Valley Fairgrounds, 1435 North Oak Street, Calistoga. We'll have 3,000 feet of space! With skylights, concrete floors, and a big parking lot! It's going to be a wonderful space for us — I hope you'll join us – or come by and take a look during our Open House coming in March.

The remaining spring sessions will be:

February 9th through March 18th
March 23rd through April 15th
April 27th through May 20th

You can find more information online at www.calistogaartcenter.org.

Classes begin again on September 1st and 3rd

Our painting space in the Calistoga Art Center,
1336 Lincoln Avenue (second floor), in Calistoga

My Acrylic Painting classes begin again at the Calistoga Art Center this week, on Wednesday, September 1, from 1 to 4 PM, for the Wednesday classes, and on Friday, September 3, from 1 to 4 PM, for the Friday classes. You can register online at www.calistogaartcenter.org.

The classes will run in four-week sessions. As always, I will address the needs and interests of students attending each class, in addition to teaching principles and practices of composition, design, values, color, and materials, and introducing both historical and contemporary artists.

For anyone who doesn't know how I teach, I pay particular attention to diving in and learning to ignore the critical voices in our heads that tell us what we do is wrong or bad. Our inner critics may mean well, but that kind of judgement impairs the creative process. Art happens when we send our inner critics out for coffee. Sound good? I hope you'll join us!
